Assignment 3

Poem 1:

A soldier’s feet

It’s a bright sunny day
What’s wrong with this picture?
It’s the unfortunate soldier
with cracked feet
like a dried up riverbed
laying there on the ground,
lifeless.
The war goes on
until peace is achieved
which came much later
after more deaths, more fighting.
Poor unfortunate soldier
always be remembered for his sacrifice
in the capitol of D.C. with other fellow soldiers

Poem 2:

Time

Time is a weird thing
It has its quirks and moods
Sometimes it speeds up or slows down
Some people want it to pass fast, some want it to stop
It can be a mortal enemy or a friend
It can mean between life and death
It affects lives

It is such a strange thing
Looking in space is like a time machine
Seeing things ancient
Seeing things that no longer exist
Not seeing things already created

To conquer time means to conquer everything
Is such a feat possible?
Is it something that should be done if possible?
Could conquering it destroy everything?

The first poem deals with the picture that we looked at in class of the soldier's feet. The second poem is about the concept of time and how if affects the lives of people in which they could change time to go fast, slow, or stop completely.

"The war goes on until peace is achieved which came much later after more deaths, more fighting."
So many have to lose their lives in war that war has really become a way to control the population.

"It can be a mortal enemy or a friend" Time can be good and at the same time horrible.

1. the first one is about feet of a solider that aren't in good condition. The second one is about how time can seem like it skips around and can be a friend or foe

2. I think the first poem is the strongest because you can see the solider's feet and how they weould look and feel.

3. in the second poem i dont like the line it affects lives, to me it dosen't fit in with the rest of the poem

4. I do like the second Poem a lot beacuse time can seem to skip around at times and duing timnes with friends you want it to slow down.

Poem 1: In my opinion, this poem is about a solider and his feet which are very worn out. The best line about this poem I think is "the war goes on until peace is achieved" because of how true it is. A line that I dont like as much is "in the capitol of D.C. with other fellow soldiers" because it is so much longer than all of the other lines.

Poem 2: This poem is about time and how it affects people. My favorite line in the poem is "Some people want it to pass fast, some want it to stop" because I can relate to that. My least favorite line in the poem is "Is such a feat possible?" because I don't know what feat means.

My favorite poem of the 2 is the second one on time. It is very intresting and shows a lot of different views on the matter.

Ross-
You really seem to be serious about your writing- at least that is the impression you give off. I think you have a lot of potential. It also seems that no matter what kind of assignment you are given, you can make work and turn it into something important.
